MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

(as per Article 111 of the NARSC Bylaws)
For eligibility as a NARSC member, the applicant must have a Bachelor of Education degree and must have successfully completed graduate level coursework with a substantial focus in reading.
Completed coursework must include a minimum of 3-credit semester hours in EACH of the following FOUR areas (total of 12 credits):
1. Theories of Language and Literacy Education (EDEL 505) 2. Diagnostic Assessment of Reading and Writing, including a supervised practicum (EDEL 508) 3. Intervention Strategies in Reading and Writing, including a supervised practicum (EDEL 509) 4. Research Methodology (EDEL 567, 568)
Completed coursework will also include a minimum of 3-credit semester hours in TWO other graduate level courses (total of 6 credits):
1. Leadership in Language Arts 2. Early Literacy Development 3. Children’s Literature 4. Theories and Models of Language 5. Contemporary Theories and Practices of Reading 6. Developing Writing Abilities 7. Assessment in Language Arts

Your complete application package will include these FOUR items:
- letter to the Executive indicating your intent and eligibility
- completed membership application form
- official university transcript
- cheque to NARSC for membership fees
